It's been pouring rain all night... We're up early to catch the 7am Pacific Transport express bus (nice, air conditioned and cheap, around F$12pp) from the airport to Pacific Harbour on
the Coral Coast. It's a 3 hr ride to the Batiluva Beach Resort office. The roads are starting to flood on our way out of Nadi but we thankfully make it out in time (although we do cross a river which is flowing over the road).
We reach the Batiluva office a little later than planned but have to wait for another couple to
join us before we take the boat transfer.
Once the Aussie couple, Mel and Ryan, arrive, we head to the boat - not quite what we expected - it's a small boat with no cover from weather, and it's raining... Dan, a Californian, sees us off and we're a little surprised that he's not joining us for the wet 45 mins ride to the Batiluva Beach Resort on Yanuca Island. We've blown the budget to be here for 3 nights (F$ TBC) since it's a surf camp within a relatively short distance of Frigate Pass, and expected a little better service...
Sharen, Dan's wife as per the brochure (we later find out that they are now separated), welcomes to the island. The camp is basic, so cold outdoor showers, as expected, but our room is nice, even though
we're right next door to our new friends and there's zero privacy...
We head out to Frigate's that first afternoon - it's a much longer ride
than anticipated, around 45 mins (7 miles from land). The sea's rough and we can't anchor so
have to head back...
Thankfully, Sharen's definitely on top of the food - there are canapes at 4pm and dinner's around 7pm. Her previous guests caught a huge tuna, so it's grilled tuna steaks on the menu tonight :)
Mosquitoes abound so we have multiple coils at all times, and we're early to bed to avoid too many bites!
