The exchange rate is around US$1 = F$1.68
We're up before dawn for our short flight to Nadi, Fiji, on Air Pacific. Even thought they
charge F$50 for the surfboard, we're impressed: blankets, food and a very nice airplane with
roomy seats!
At Nadi airport we meet Lucy from Sunset Tours to finalize our schedule and
bookings the next two weeks (although I've read two guide books, I'm still not sure what the
best itinerary would be...). Since our hotel of choice, The Funky Fish, has no generator right
now, we end up planning to stay on the main land for a few days to surf Cloudbreak or any of the
other breaks around Tavarua and Namotu islands.
We check in at Tanoa Skylodge (F$80) and are happy to find that we have air conditioning :)
Later at the pool we meet Jack, real name Jujigsuren, from Mongolia, a beer sales rep,
who's here to learn English so as to improve his work opportunities back home. He started off in
India but found that too many questions were asked in Hindi which he couldn't understand, so
decided to come to Fiji instead.
Mike's scheduled to surf Cloudbreak for the next two mornings with Go Surf in Wailoaloa Bay (F$105pp surfer/non surfer & an outrageous F$100 for a board...). Malolo Surf next door, at the
Smuggler's Cove (which serves great cappuccino), are repairing their boat whilst we're there so
we can't go out with them although their rates would have worked out better for us (F$120/F$50
for a surfer/non-surfer & $30 for a board).
