The next day, we set off to the ferry (ST TBC to include a full size car) around lunchtime, and drive toward the ferry dock, which is a little past the airport. It's a beautiful sunny day and there a some wonderful views of turquoise lagoons all along the way. We reach the ferry dock a couple of hours before departure as recommended, and the next car to join the line is Josh and Tanya's :)
The ride is only an hour, so we reach Savaii at 5pm. We've decided to stay at Aganoa Beach Resort tonight since someone metionned to Josh that Keith, the Aussie owner, will be a good source of info regarding the next swell.
We go in for a dip before dinner and meet Isaac, a Kiwi, and Katy, an Austrian, who are on their honeymoon. It turns out they lived 5 years in Bali, and are on their way to Salani's next, and they're excited to hear that Mike got some good waves there!
The next morning, at breakfast, we meet Rachael and Damien; Rachael, an American, has just moved here for four years with her two teenage sons, and Damien, a Samoan fisherman, who has some great traditional tattoos, is helping out at Aganoa for a few weeks.
A little later that morning, both Keith and Damien get told off by the lady of the house when they take the boat out fishing with the whole crew of young surfers who are a bit bored - it's Sunday - so no fishing! This is enforced everywhere accross Samoa - no fishing or boating - although swimming and surfing by themselves are fine.
We go out for a snorkel before checking out and discover some very nice coral gardens with lots of small fish and I have my first underwater encounter with a big turtle who seems to be happily meandering just as we are.
Keith seems to think there may be some swell on Monday, so we plan to go around the island and head back around around then.
