We stepped off the Air Tahiti Nui flight in Papeete early in the morning planning to take public transportation to check out the famous Teahupoo wave - it's the wrong season of course so expectations aren't high. Having realized that public transportation may not quite get us there and back in time for our ferry to Moorea tonight, we splurge on a tiny Clio and begin our journey around the island toward Teahupoo. We get to the end of the road, and we're here! We walk down to the point to check it out, have a swim, then wander back in search of food. We tuck into a baguette with fish/chips/ketchup and a Hinano beer and ask the waitress for the best way to find a boat on this quiet weekday, where no one appears to be around. She sends us to the marina where we meet Michael who works out of his yacht and is available to take us to Teahupoo for a surf/photo session. Mike is ecstatic and even more so once he's caught a few waves :)
